Job Purpose
We are seeking a talented Controller to join our team. As a Controller at Canopy USA, you will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and strategic insight through managing the financial health and stability of the organization. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting team, from compliance, controls, and accounting operations to tax. This position reports directly to the Chief Administration Officer (CAO) and offers an opportunity to lead and grow. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  1. Financial Reporting and Controls:
    1. Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    2. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal financial policies.
    3. Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
    4. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  2. Accounting Operations:
    1. Supervise day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
    2. Ensure efficient and compliant financial operations across all business units.
    3. Develop and maintain accounting procedures, policies, and documentation.
  3. Compliance and Audit:
    1. Coordinate and manage annual audits with external auditors.
    2. Oversee tax filings and compliance across applicable jurisdictions.
    3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial regulations and standards.
  4. Financial Planning and Support:
    1. Work closely with the VP of Finance to ensure the integrity of financial data, support decision-making, and provide timely reporting to leadership.
  5. Team Leadership:
    1. Lead and mentor the accounting team.
    2. Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    3. Identify and develop talent within the finance function.
  6. Strategic Contribution:
    1. Provide insights and recommendations to support company strategy.
    2. Collaborate with finance and executive leadership to align accounting initiatives with organizational goals.
    3. Support integration of acquisitions and system upgrades as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct report(s) and supervisory responsibility in the Accounting department. This employee has the authority to hire and fire other employees, or this employee’s suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other change of status of other employees are given particular weight.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and audit requirements.
  • Experience in multi-entity, multi-state operations preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and tools (e.g., ERP systems).
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership experience with a collaborative and mentorship-focused style.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Annual compensation commensurate with experience from $190,000 - $220,000.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position is exempt from overtime pay due to executive employee exemption.
This position regularly works normal business hours, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Please confirm with the supervisor regarding the expected working schedule.
